How to read WhatsApp, FB text without sender knowing

In this day and age of smart phone there is no place to hide, no privacy at all.

Every messaging app, from iMessage to Facebook Messenger to WhatsApp insist on sending 'read receipts' to contacts letting people know that you've seen their message.

There's no way you can avoid them, right? Wrong. Here's how to turn off the feature in some of the most popular apps.

When you receive a notification, perhaps from someone they are trying to avoid, you should not open the app to read it.

Instead, turn on 'Airplane Mode,' which disables access to Wi-Fi and mobile signals.

Also known as Flight Mode, this option is accessible in the Settings menu, by swiping up from the bottom of the screen on iOS or from the top of the screen on Android.

Once this mode has been enabled, the user can then open the app and read the message without alerting the sender's attention to their action by triggering the blue ticks.

To keep it a secret, users then need to close the app completely while still in Airplane Mode, even from home screen.

This can be done by double tapping the iPhone's home button and swiping upwards on the WhatsApp app, or by tapping the multitask button and closing the app on Android handsets. You can then turn off the 'Airplane mode'.

The sender of the message will remain unaware it has been read so long as the sneaky reader doesn't open the chain of messages while online.

Messages/iMessages

To prevent contacts from knowing when you've seen a message on imessage, you need to disable the 'Send Read Receipts' box to 'off'.

To disable it on your iOS, head to Settings > Messages and change the 'Send Read Receipts' toggle to off.

To disable read receipts on your Mac, open up Messages and head to Messages > Preferences > Accounts. Make sure the 'Send read receipts' box is unchecked.
